William Yeager Obituary, Death Cause – The passing of William Eugene “Bill” Yeager, Jr. took place on October 4, 2023 at Sandpoint, Idaho, when he was 85 years old. Funeral services will be held in the Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington, on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at one o’clock in the afternoon. At the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint on Monday, October 23, from two in the afternoon until four in the evening, there will be a viewing for relatives and friends of the deceased.
Bill Yeager was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on March 5, 1938. His parents, Willian and Helen, conceived of him on March 5, 1938, and delivered him there. He had a reputation for being quite accessible while still being fiercely independent. During the conflict in Vietnam, he was a soldier in the United States Army and did his part to serve his country. After a stroke left him blind, the local community rallied together to gather money to purchase him a guide dog named “Priestap” from an organization called Leader Dogs for the Blind. Leader Dogs for the Blind was established in 1939 by the Lion’s Club.
After he had a stroke that left him blind, the community banded together to buy him the dog. Bill liked being able to go on walks and spend time outside. He recalled the many amazing adventures he had during his life while backpacking throughout the world and shared his stories with the audience. In addition to his dog named “Priestap,” he is survived by a great number of friends, neighbors, and others who cared for him. The Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint is the one responsible for making the necessary arrangements at this time.
