Accutane can have certain effects on the liver which, combined with alcohol, can become dangerous. Accutane alone can, in certain cases, damage the liver, so combining it with alcohol can increase that damage. Also a combination of alcohol and Accutane can cause major alterations in the lipids in one’s blood.
Can you drink at all on Accutane?
Do not drink alcohol while you are taking ISOtretinoin. You may have unpleasant side effects such as fast heartbeats, warmth or redness under your skin, tingly feeling, nausea, and vomiting. Check your food and medicine labels to be sure these products do not contain alcohol.
Does drinking alcohol make Accutane less effective?
Alcohol can interfere with Accutane processing in the liver and has been reported to possibly make Accutane treatment less effective. However, other studies suggest that alcohol does not affect Accutane processing and efficacy. Patients on very low doses of Accutane may be at less risk of alcohol-related liver damage.
How long do u have to be off Accutane to drink?
It takes 5.5 x elimination half-life of a medicine before it is eliminated from your system. Accutane (isotretinoin) has an elimination half-life of 21 hours, therefore it will take 5.5 x 21 hours = 115.5 hours (approximately 4.8 days) before it will be cleared from your system. Side effects may last longer.
