In an interview with Variety in which she praises Berlin's decision to have "genderless" awards, she basically says that anyone who calls themselves definitively homosexual is "sad."

daughter of an aristocrat, she literally grew up in a castle. I’m so glad to have her opinion on my sexual orientation

by Anonymousreply 2September 3, 2020 10:19 PM

It's easy for an androgynous looking person to say this.

by Anonymousreply 3September 3, 2020 10:19 PM

Ultra-wokes hate gays and lesbians. They're a lot like Trump IMHO. "A total lesbian? Sad!"

Troll thread.

OP cherry picked words and pieced them together for a misleading thread title.

Nothing to see here.

by Anonymousreply 14September 3, 2020 10:48 PM

[quote]OP cherry picked words and pieced them together for a misleading thread title.

Which words were cherry picked in "Tilda Swinton can go fuck herself"?

by Anonymousreply 15September 3, 2020 10:50 PM

[quote] she basically says that anyone who calls themselves definitively homosexual is "sad."

Why did you say 'basically' as opposed to her full and actual quote? So, basically, your op is your opinion.

by Anonymousreply 16September 3, 2020 10:51 PM

[quote] Which words were cherry picked in "Tilda Swinton can go fuck herself"?

Well, basically, it's my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 17September 3, 2020 10:54 PM

She's too dumb to realize erasing gender is erasing women. Look at the only people doing it...MEN!

by Anonymousreply 18September 3, 2020 10:55 PM

Well R15, here is the quote from the article:

[quote]"It just makes me sad to call yourself definitively heterosexual, definitively homosexual, definitively male, definitively female. It makes me want to go to sleep. So bravo, Berlin.”

Not PRECISELY what OP wrote but SUBSTANTIVELY accurate. Nothing wrong in pointing out that her words were different, yet not sufficiently at odds to hop on the Fake news! LIES! Putting words in her mouth! Thread closed!

It's not even a misleading thread title.

by Anonymousreply 20September 3, 2020 10:58 PM

Fuck you, Tilda! If the movie industry never comes back perhaps it will be in the best interest of culture and society. They're all too crazy. They no longer reflect any semblance of "universal human experience" - they're a fringe tribe of privileged weirdos. And they're anti-science in that human biology hasn't altered in the past decade as they seem to think. The only thing that's changed is that social media has driven large numbers of people crazy.

by Anonymousreply 21September 3, 2020 11:01 PM

Yeah, OP is putting her own spin on what Tilda actually said, which was a bold and groundbreaking announcement that she didn’t, like, believe in labels. I love watching her on screen but she sounds completely unbearable.

by Anonymousreply 22September 3, 2020 11:02 PM

Overall, this thread is an effort to gin up hatred for Tilda over something she didn't even actually say. Yet another alt-right attempt at sowing division and stoking outrage.

The thread ought to be closed.

by Anonymousreply 24September 3, 2020 11:09 PM

Oh dear, our newest troll, Poisoned Dragon.

Go away troll. You are infecting too many threads here.

by Anonymousreply 25September 3, 2020 11:10 PM

This "gender is a social construct" nonsense is an aspect of the new radical chic. Otherwise, why would "gender-neutral" children be so much more prevalent with wealthy celebrities and other elites than the general population, who seem to have no particular problem in differentiating between boys and girls (in most instances)? I live in L.A. and I can't help but imagine what this upscale gender confusion must look like to Latino families, one of the few remaining groups who seem to produce normal, healthy kids.

by Anonymousreply 26September 3, 2020 11:10 PM

R24 Don't feed the troll, Poisoned Dragon. He has started trolling dozens of threads here and it's best to block it.

by Anonymousreply 27September 3, 2020 11:11 PM

And, btw, I have seen Tilda on multiple occasions, when she was filming in the Hudson Valley. IRL, she does not look androgynous at all. She looks like a tall, pale, attractive woman. No one would think she was not a woman.

by Anonymousreply 28September 3, 2020 11:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 32September 3, 2020 11:18 PM

I don't know that many people would agree that having an explicit sexual orientation and embracing it, label and all, is "sad".

by Anonymousreply 33September 3, 2020 11:18 PM

[quote] Overall, this thread is an effort to gin up hatred for Tilda over something she didn't even actually say. Yet another alt-right attempt at sowing division and stoking outrage.

R23 gets it.

[quote] The ONLY thing I did was leave out the heterosexual part because it doesn't concern me.

That alone proves you're a troll. It also proves your quote was edited and turning it in to your opinion. You said "because it didnt concern me" which makes an opinion.

[quote] She said exactly what I said she said and if you can't see that, then you're part of the problem.

No, she didn't. No, I'm not.

R39, I posted the full quote. You, again, edited her words and want pass it off as her quote.

Thanks for helping me show that you are liar I said you were.

by Anonymousreply 42September 3, 2020 11:53 PM

[quote]Just so it appears again in this thread.

It needs to, R39, so that posters can see that she didn't say anything like what the OP claims. But your "quote" isn't what she said. It's another tendentious paraphrase.

She didn't say that homosexuals are "sad"; she said that she was sad at the compartmentalization of the labels. While her point of view is a bit removed from most everyone else's, it's not worth organizing a stoning party.

So paid trolls - alt-righters, incels, 4channers, Russians, etc - just hang it up.

by Anonymousreply 43September 3, 2020 11:57 PM

Methinks PoisonedDragon is pulling a Janbot and posting under two personas.

by Anonymousreply 44September 4, 2020 12:00 AM

Trolls aren't paid to think, R44. And your version of "I know you are, but what am I?" is pretty lame.

You're not going to persuade real DL posters to glom onto the Tilda Swinton stoning party. You'll have to float this one through trollsocks alone.

by Anonymousreply 78September 4, 2020 3:36 AM

I love Tilda, but she’s always struck me as a closet case (yes, they exist among liberal/arty communities). This statement does nothing to change my mind.

by Anonymousreply 79September 4, 2020 3:45 AM

I’ve always like Tilda Swinton, both her acting and her movie choices. I think it’s unfortunate that she didn’t think of the impact of her words before uttering them. At the same time, I don’t want to blow her words out of proportion. What this episode reminds me, though, is that the continuing erosion of gay male life/identity/community just makes me sad. Yes, I’m semi-ancient and I suppose if I were 22 I wouldn’t miss what I’d never known. But I miss what we had, for example in the 1970s and ‘80s. Living online, while I do it almost as much as any youngster, seems like a pale imitation of living IRL.

[R92] Ironic how woke liberalism has circled back around to a new kind of bigotry. I still consider myself a liberal in the classic sense but "woke" is a fungible, amorphous form of radicalism that has nothing to do with classic liberalism and its roots in the Enlightenment. You can only undermine society so much before you destroy it and we're getting to that point. What terrible dragons exit beyond the event horizon?
