There's no doubt that Travis Kelce would be having an incredible 2023 even if he wasn't allegedly seeing Taylor Swift. However, the fact that the two might be dating has definitely raised his profile. It's even possible that the Swift and Kelce rumors are making the NFL rich.
While Kelce continues to make headlines because of Swift and his performance in recent Kansas City Chiefs games, he has also recently been in the news because of a comment that New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said about him.
Just like fans wonder if Aaron Rodgers is friends with Zach Wilson because of the potential competition between the teammates, it's easy to be curious about how well Rodgers actually gets along with Travis Kelce. Here's what their relationship is really like.
What Happened Between Travis Kelce And Aaron Rodgers?
In October 2023, when he was interviewed on The Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers referred to Travis Kelce as "Mr. Pfizer." According to NBC Sports, he said this because Kelce starred in an advertisement for Pfizer's flu and COVID-19 vaccines.
Later, Rodgers said that he would be happy to talk to Kelce about the subject. He said, "Listen, you know, Mr. Pfizer said he didn’t think he’d be in a vaxx war with me. . . . This ain’t a war, homey, this is conversation. But if you wanna have some sort of duel, debate, have me on the podcast, come on the show. Let’s have a conversation."
Several people mentioned that since Rodgers is The New York Jets quarterback, a team that Johnson and Johnson owns, he shouldn't have made that comment.
Aaron Rodgers is a staple on The Pat McAfee Show and this is just one example of the many interviews that he records on a regular basis. Of course, because of the topic that he discussed in this recent episode, people paid more attention to it than some of the other episodes he recorded.
According to The New York Post, he is being paid quite a lot of money in order to be interviewed. McAfee shared with the publication, “Aaron has made over $1,000,000 with us, for sure."
Are Travis Kelce And Aaron Rodgers Friends?
Siblings Jason and Travis Kelce have a podcast called New Heights, and one episode offered a bit of insight into the relationship between Travis Kelce and Aaron Rodgers.
The New York Post reported that Travis Kelce mentioned talking to Rodgers in a podcast episode that came out around the same time that Rodgers made his comments. However, as The New York Post noted, no one is sure if Kelce was already aware of what Rodgers said about him when he recorded his podcast episode.
Kelce said that the two athletes talked prior to a Kansas City Chiefs/New York Jets game in early October 2023. He explained, "Talked about a little bit of the ‘stache wear, how powerful this thing can be. And then on top of that, I just wanted to go up to him, I didn’t shoot him a text or anything like that, I just wanted to go up to him and just tell him how excited everybody was and how bummed out we were that you got banged up and needed to get surgery."
Even Before The Taylor Swift Link, Travis Kelce Charmed Audiences On SNL
Travis Kelce has dazzled Taylor Swift and her fans, but Kelce was turning on the charm long before he met Swift when he hosted SNL.
Since Kelce mentioned that he hadn't texted Rodgers before chatting with him in person, it's possible that they have each other's phone numbers. This would suggest that they have met in the past. However, neither athlete has said that they are friends or that they know each other well.
Kelce continued in the podcast episode, “Watching “Hard Knocks,” man, it was electric to see what Aaron Rodgers was going to do with that team, and not to say that they’re not going to be great cause he’s not there but I think that having Aaron there was going to be that much more entertaining for somebody that’s a fan of the game like I am."
He added, "And you just hate to see the great ones go down with injury, that’s for sure. So, I just went up to him and told him we were all hurting for him and hopefully he gets healthy quick.”
From what Kelce said, it doesn't sound like Kelce and Rodgers are good friends. It doesn't sound like they dislike each other or have been fighting. Instead, they seem to have a mutual respect for one another.
At the very least, Kelce thinks that Rodgers is a talented player and he has been supportive of the tough time that Rodgers has gone through since tearing his Achilles heel. Even if the two have differing opinions on certain subjects, it seems fair to say that they can relate to each other since they have the same career.
Since then, Travis Kelce has spoken about what Aaron Rodgers said about him. According to People, he said, "I stand by it, 1000%. I'm fully comfortable with him calling me Mr. Pfizer."
Did Taylor Swift Destroy Brittany Mahomes' Close Friendship With Travis Kelce's Ex-Girlfriend, Kayla Nicole?
Brittany Mahomes and Kayla Nicole have been tight for years, but now that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift could be dating, things seem to be different.
The athlete also said, “I thought it was pretty good. With the mustache, I look like someone named Mr. Pfizer. Who knew I'd get into vax wars with Aaron Rodgers, man? Mr. Pfizer against the Johnson and Johnson family over there."
While some might have expected Travis Kelce to be upset with what Aaron Rodgers said about him, he sounded fine with it, and it doesn't seem that he was bothered at all. He is likely used to being in the public eye at this point. Besides being a star athlete for a long time, Kelce has also been in countless relationships that have gotten lots of media attention.
It definitely seems like they have a pleasant conversation prior to the game. Football fans can guess that whenever the two cross paths in the future, they will continue to chat and there won't be any awkward tension.
Although Rodgers did mention wanting to have a debate with Kelce over the topic of vaccines, Kelce didn't say that he would like to do that. It seems unlikely that this discussion would actually happen.
