Jessica Simpson was one of the most successful pop stars in the '90s, thanks to her hit songs With You, Take My Breath Away, I Think I’m In Love With You, and These Boots Are Made For Walkin’, having sold over 25 million albums to date and won a handful of awards in the process.
By 2003, the blonde beauty had also landed her very own reality show on MTV, titled Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which followed Simpson’s life after tying the knot with her then-husband Nick Lachey, whom she called things off with three years later.
During her heyday, the Irresistible singer-songwriter, who once dated John Mayer, always commanded attention for her incredible figure, with many praising her at the time for choosing not to go under the knife like most celebs after they reach superstardom and make it big in Hollywood.
But according to the mother-of-three, she did end up having plastic surgery at a certain point in her career, which she candidly revealed in her memoir Open Book. Here’s the lowdown…
Did Jessica Simpson Admit To Cosmetic Work?
Indeed.
In her 2020 memoir, Open Book, where Simpson discusses everything from her failed marriage with Lachey to her past issues with alcohol, the Texas native openly admitted that she did end up seeing a plastic surgeon after beginning to struggle with her body image.
After her first two pregnancies, Simpson shared that she did, in fact, undergo two tummy tuck surgeries, though she fooled the world into thinking her weight loss was simply down to eating WeightWatchers, whom she was partnered with during the time.
Simpson had signed an endorsement deal to practically convince her fans that she was able to drop her baby weight by following the WeightWatchers diet.
But in her book, the former reality TV star said she struggled with her weight gain so much and had a relatively hard time losing the additional pounds that she subsequently decided to go under the knife and safe herself the ridicule of being targeted by the press.
At first, though, Simpson said she didn’t want the tummy tuck for the sake of losing weight but more so to get rid of the loose skin and stretch marks she developed while carrying her children.

“I was so ashamed of my body at this point that I wouldn’t let” her husband Eric Johnson “see me without a white T-shirt on,” she gushed. “I had sex with it on. and even showered with it on. I couldn’t bear to look at myself.”
Why Was Jessica Unhappy With Her Body?
After welcoming two children, Simpson said the pregnancies had taken a toll on her body and she no longer felt like herself.
She hated the extra saggy skin and knew that trying to get herself back in tip-top shape while juggling motherhood and a career was going to be no easy feat, so she opted for a tummy tuck — which she ended up having for her first two pregnancies, respectively.
But in hindsight, Simpson continued by saying that she admired women who embraced their so-called flaws and be proud of their stretch marks after welcoming a human being into the world. She just simply wan’t strong enough to view things from that perspective at the time and ultimately decided to see a surgeon.

“I need to say this: If you have stretch marks from pregnancy, I hope you can be proud that your body created life,” she added. “I was not strong enough. It touched all my insecurities, and I couldn’t handle it.”
Jessica Simpsons' Issues Continued
Ahead of her second procedure, Simpson was enjoying a brief vacation in the Caribbean with her friends when her doctor called to warn her about her dangerously high liver levels, which were brought on by her heavy drinking.
He instructed her to give up drinking immediately otherwise he would not perform the surgery on her, as she would be a liability, with complications sure to arise during her recovery process. “I was killing myself with the drinking and the pills,” she said, admitting that she also had a problem with an unnamed stimulant and Ambien.
“You could die,” the doctor told her. “You need to stop everything for three months before you have this surgery. Everything.”
After quitting pills and alcohol and having her surgery, she continued: “I recovered, and yes, my stomach looked great.
“I felt like myself again. But I can tell you that plastic surgery does not cure what’s inside. Really, it’s about how you feel emotionally, and I was still just as hard on myself once those stitches were out.”
