Stone Temple Pilots frontman and two-time Grammy winner Scott Weiland was found dead at 48 on Thursday night while on tour in Minnesota.
While Weiland is known to have struggled with substance abuse problems in the past, the musician’s cause of death is still unknown.
According to Billboard, Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro was first to break the news on Twitter around 9 p.m. by tweeting (and since deleting), “Our friend Scott Weiland has died.”
Weiland’s former Velvet Revolver band mate Slash shared a photo of the rock star accompanied by a simple, “Sad day. RIP Scott Weiland.”
