Remembering Actor David Oliver on his birthday.

Handsome. Talented. Sweet guy. He died of AIDS and only lived to be 30 years old. He played Perry Hutchins on AW. He played Sam on "A year in the life". So many forgotten people died so young. Sometimes it's nice to remember some of them.

He was in an episode of Star Trek TNG in early1992 and would be dead before the end of the year..

I'm only posting because I like the silly-looks of the character he played.

Here he is (27:00 mark). So dreamy and nice. He was on Match Game the same week with Tom Villard, who also died of AIDS.

He was gorgeous and as a young gayling I loved him on the short-lived "A Year in the Life". I had forgotten however what he sounded like. My dear, he would have been outed in a heartbeat today. Tom Villard the same with that Liberace coat he was wearing.

Op, even though I didn’t know of him, this is very kind of you to post this on his birthday. He’d turn 60 today. We lost a lot of good souls to AIDS.

When I was growing up I kept scrapbooks and folders on stuff I was interested in including a folder on AIDS. I don’t know if younger people understand what the beginning of the AIDS crisis and its impact on society, particularly the gay community, was like. Anyway, part of the articles I kept were famous and ordinary people who died from AIDS. Many of these people, like David Oliver, were not publicly out and were only revealed as gay after their cause of death was given - because gay men were primarily who were dying. It was like a branding. “They had AIDS.” Nobody wanted to be associated with this.

I still have all of my scrapbooks and folders. Maybe some day I’ll post some of what I have.

R23 = Gay. No drugs at all. He also didn't float on his good looks. He took acting lessons thru-out his career. Most actors don't bother once they get a gig. He met his boyfriend in an acting class.

The IMDb page of David's former partner, Terry Houlihan, indicatges he just died this last October.

Yesterday I tried to find some pix and more info on Terry but couldn't find anything. I bet he was quite handsome back in the day

I loved A Year in the Life, and I had no idea that David Oliver was gay or that he'd died from AIDS. So many of my gay friends did, back then... It's hard for younger LGBs to understand the fear, dread, and anxiety associated with those years. Hearing about one man after another -- who would be next? What was causing this disease? And would someone find a cure? Even now I so miss my old friends, the crew from the gay AA meeting I went to back in the 80s. They were some of the wittiest and most brilliant men I've ever met. May they RIP.

One of the worst aspects of the tragedy of AIDS is that it killed VERY YOUNG men. The first death of an acquaintance I suffered was at age 15, he died from AIDS at just 19 years old. Many, many men died in their late teens and 20s. It was so horrible living through that time.

Not to make this a soap thread, per se, but quite a few daytime actors from that era died of AIDS. Some have that as their official cause of death, for others it's been obscured over the years.

R40 Yes, that's Terry. .. And since that Gofundme in 2020, it appears that Terry had to sell Boxing on the Boulevard.

The new owner (Ian) put a message up on the club's Facebook page when Terry died back in October, which reads:

A boxer, actor , comedian and member of the gay community...Terry was loved by all especially by his partner of many years, Steve. In loving memory of Terry(Terry is on the left). We will all miss you so very much tough guy! I only hope I can honor the gym you left in my hands Terry as the new owner.

R55....Thank You....Glad to see Terry was a survivor thru what must have been heartbreaking losing his boyfriend David, and his own struggles...Also can I just say how heroic it was of David to reveal he had AIDS? The stigma was there even in the gay community.
