Peter White is DEAD TO ME

After starring as the sexually ambiguous Alan on stage and in the William Friedkin film, he played Linc Tyler on the ABC soap opera for years. He was 86. Is Laurence Luckinbill the only surviving cast member of Boys in the Band?

Leonard Frey died in 1988

Keith Prentice and Frederick Coms both died in 1992

Kenneth Nelson died in 1993

R4 no wife or kids has nothing to do with sexuality. Grow up. Some people don’t wanna have either.

The Sun reported that White died of melanoma, a form of skin cancer.

I don't remember his character on All My Children. When was he on? Must be the early days.

Peter was on the show from 1974 to 1980 with a few guest appearances in 1981, 1984, 1986, 1995, and 2005.

Perfectly cast as Alan. RIP.

In 1968, White received critical acclaim for his role as Alan McCarthy in off-Broadway's The Boys in the Band. White, and the rest of the original cast, appeared in the 1970 film version, directed by William Friedkin. He was touring in Barefoot in the Park with Myrna Loy when he was offered the part in Mart Crowley's controversial play about a group of gay friends in New York. He told Soap Opera Digest: “Things were sort of really moving for me; I was doing so well, and I thought, ‘I don’t need this kind of risk.’ I talked to Myrna — she became my mentor — and she said, ‘Peter, if you are going to be an actor, you are going to have to take some risks in your life.'”

Good Lord I just watched this days ago and looked up who was still alive. I'm afraid that may have caused his demise.

I assume Cliff Gorman was the other 'straight' actor

On the DVD commentary of The Boys in the Band (1970), one of the interviewed mentioned that Gorman and his wife took care of Robert La Tourneaux when he was dying of AIDS. Gorman and La Tourneaux appeared both in the original play and film version of The Boys in the Band.

Why, Lincoln lived with Kitty without benefit of clergy! It was sordid and sinful!

He is? My impression is that he pretty much disappeared about 20 years or so ago.

Greene's last credit is 1982s Clairvoyant.

Reuben Greene gave an interview to the Windy City Times in 2011. In it he says he is not gay.

Someone who has had that experience, and I don't know if I'm capable of doing that."

Oddly, the LATimes is just now running an obit.

He pings in the photo at R31.

That's not an obit the LA Times ran. It's a death notice, which is paid for by the family or the person's estate.

It's a subtle difference between an obit and a death notice. However, with the death notice, since the family is paying for it, they dictate exactly what is written.

With an obit, the newspaper has final say over what is written. The obit is free, but not everyone gets an obit. Only people whose deaths are deemed newsworthy get obits.

Death notices are often necessary for legal reasons to satisfy giving notice for settling any outstanding debt of the deceased. Death notices typically don't run until several weeks after the death, whereas obits run immediately after the death.
