My sister installed a SimpliSafe alarm system in her apartment complex and has now been accused of racism.

She simply installed a very simple mail order alarm system and put one of the signs out in the front of her apartment entryway. Immediately she was accused of racism for installing the alarm. It is a suburban type apartment complex so I can't blame her, but why the backlash? Is this normal?
