Actually its pretty obvious that the Muslim kid is lying, as it makes no sense that he'd call them ultra conservative and then say that, but the writing is so constantly off here that who really cares about yet another glaring absurdity?

Can someone post this at the Love Victor thread: It's paywalled. Thanks.

The problem I have is watching a jock throwing away zingers and whatnot like he's a drag queen. That scene with Rahim and Victor at the pedicure place and the coffee house scene are so cringe. Victor speaks exactly like the femme Muslim. No fucking way a jock, albeit out, would say stuff like 'did Tom Holland slide into your dm?' or all the quippy retorts he uses in that episode only. it's lazy writing, nothing in that episode makes sense; but i guess woke right.

Another thing that bothers me is just how unrealistic this jock is. It does sound like m/m fiction and the idea of someone who never played sports and what would happen to them if they were gay. Victor never talks about sports, gears, scores, teams, etc. What team does he support? No shirt, not even a phone case? Nothing. Kobe Bryant died last year and a high school basketball team said nothing, this is absurd.

It's hard to take this seriously. VIctor seems detached from his jock life, which could be explored as the alienation we feel playing sports in HS while being gay and closeted, I've been there. Instead we have two Victors that don't make sense. There's Victor with a beard/girlfriend, I get it, he's hanging with them, but we never see the camaraderie that sports bring. This coming out would've been way harder in real life, because Victor would be attached to his team. Here, he comes out, bye and we never see him again hanging with them, even after the equally laughable pink hair statement. It's like the jocks are there just as a reminder that this kid is a jock, even though he doesn't talk or behave like one at all. The father mentions he and Victor bounded over sports but nothing indicates this besides this exposition.

Throw some jerseys around, some sports lingo for crying out loud. Such talented show runners doing such a poor job. If you're gonna throw your jock into mannie peddie territory, at least make him sound like he's awkward and like he's still a jock. Every time Victor is with Rahim, even at the dramatic confrontation with his mom, he sounds like Rahim speaking with the femme kid's slang and retorts, that's cringe, just stop.

I was actually thinking at some point that Victor would drag at the club, that's how far fetched that episode went.

Last but not least, hire a gay or bi writer that played sports in high school, how hard can it be? Isn't Greg Berlanti married to a former soccer player who was closeted? Reach out to him, I'm not kidding, bring in some authenticity to this.
