Julia’s song, called “Down the Drain,” was released on Friday, May 3rd. The debut single shares its name with her riveting 2023 memoir. Julia first performed the hit at Charli XCX's Boiler Room DJ set in February, showcasing the track before its public release.
Julia teamed up with Ben Draghi, a French experimental music composer based in Brooklyn, New York, to co-write the song. Ben took on the production duties for the track.
Kanye West Started His Career By Working This Very Normal Job
He may now be one of the most famous people on the planet, but Kanye once had a very normal job that many people have worked in.The song's opening has an air of assertiveness, as Julia confronts the labels affixed to her throughout her career, boldly declaring, "I'm a b***h, I’m a girl, I'm a woman, I'm a wh**e," echoing the phrase multiple times with intensity. She also interjects "mother" in lieu of "woman" on alternating lines.
Later in the song, Fox declares,, "I'm a menace, not a muse. The baddest f**king drug that you'll ever use.” This line may parallel what she’s said in pst interviews, such as her 2022 appearance on the podcast Call Her Daddy.
During the appearance, Julia addressed inquiries about her role as Kanye's muse by making a comparison to her collaboration with filmmaker Josh Safdie on Uncut Gems, saying she was his muse, too.
