I've really noticed that many post-90s models really are not attractive in a conventional sense. Naomi, Cindy, Kathy and Tyra were physically attractive to both men and women of adult ages. Male models like David Gandy and Tyson Beckford are also conventionally very attractive. The modern models like Bella, Jordan and Cara etc seem to be more popular with teenage girls on social media who like skinny waif or twink looks. Also the nepotism and cross-contamination of celebrities and socialites into the modeling world really did a number too.

Look, I'm sure Gigi is a nice person but her family connections is what made her a model. That is a fact. The fashion industry has pretty much lost its relevance thanks to the internet anyway. But it seems nepotism has gotten more and more prevalent in the arts world. It always existed but working class to middle-class people were still able to break into the arts when wages were better, the cost of living was lower and college was affordable. All of which allowed for more leisure time to pursue creative interests and get good at it. The American Dream died thanks to corporations and employers screwing over everyone and the rising cost of living. So the only people who can make it in film, acting, music, modeling, the fine arts and fashion are those who come from money as they have the time to work at it and have the doors already opened for them. A lot of mediocracy today thanks to that because rich kids have less of an incentive to prove themselves. Meanwhile regular people are focused on working service jobs, studying STEM or doing trades.

Interesting because usually the models who become successful in other areas are more often than female models who often branch out into setting up lifestyle brands, TV, film and setting up their own agencies. As women are the biggest consumers of fashion and they follow models in general, female models have an established loyal audience. Male models should just focus on saving and investing that money because unless they look like Shemar Moore, Tyson Beckford or David Gandy (who are masculine and thus more identifiable and well-liked by a male audience and) they will not get any TV or film roles.
