While looking for an optometrist in my area using Google Maps, I discovered that my local shopping mall's JC Penney has an optical department. A department store offering eye care seems odd to me. It has 3 out of 5 stars.

Here is one of the negative reviews:

[quote]NO ONE IS PRESENT TO HELP. I've showed up to the store many times and no one is ever there. My calls are never returned. I got insurance for my glasses only to pay an extra fee because I can't get a replacement. You guys need to get a booking system so that we can book an appointment since you do NOT wish to be at the store to help us. I was told yesterday by the JC PENNY Manager that Daniel was on lunch @ 5pm when they close at 6pm. California law you must take it within 5hours of clocking in. She then said "oh maybe he is gone for the day" what a joke! I wasn't the only upset client, there was another lady there too.

And another:

[quote]I have been going to this optician since 2011 and never had any problems, but this year it was horrible. They gave me the appointment, which I could not complete because the doctor who goes "on Wednesdays" does not accept insurance and they never told me that when I made the appointment, so they just made me waste my time and gasoline. In addition, the attention of the girls at the front desk leaves a lot to be desired, since they do not know how to take care of patients well or do not know how the system works. Please find another place to check your eyes as everything is very disorganized here. If I could I would give it -1 star.

Stop bitching and go the Lens Crafters which is also in the mall.

Go to Walmart, dear, I'm sure their optical dept. is just as bad

Welcome to the Post-Covid world...

You have a functional mall that still has an open JC Penney? Are you posting from 1985, and if so, could you drop by to pick me up and take me there?

What the fuck did you expect? I'm sorry however that service to the hoi polloi has gone down the shitter in the USA. Here's an idea. Stop letting the rich TAKE ALL THE WEALTH. You deserve a nice safe healthy comfortable modest life with all the wealth produced in the USA. You're getting shafted.

Jc Penney Optical is an oxymoron. Helen Keller has been running that company into the ground for decades. Remember the adverts featuring Ellen hollering about, "No More Coupons!" Huge mistake...big.

I don't know about the optical department, but JC Penney, in general, sucks. Having had previous luck shopping there for kitchen gear and linens, I tried again. Total FUBAR. And no one would help me fix things, no one would answer the phone.

Sounds like you should have gone around the corner to Sears and their optical department.

JCPenney is dying. I wouldn't go to their optical department, because I would have no way to ensure the store would still be open by the time my glasses came in!

Poor OP. I’m clutching my Pearles.

Yes, it seems Penney’s is on its way out.

by Anonymousreply 14May 21, 2023 3:52 AM

What does Penney possess?

by Anonymousreply 15May 21, 2023 3:53 AM

Where do you live, OP? Tuscaloosa?

Why would people end up deciding to take their eyecare business to, of all places, JC Penney? It reminds me of when old department store chains like Zayre used to have automotive repair sections.

Sears had an optical department. I remember their catchy jingle from back in the day: “the optical department at Sears!”

Imagine the inspiration and toil that must've gone into the creation of that slogan at the ad agency.

At the 3:56 mark in the video:

"Everything you've ever seen, known, heard of, touched, experienced. Everything."

"Things you'd find in a Sears?"

They have an optometry department at BJs, too.

Isn’t this a post from the “How to Say You’re Gay Without Saying You’re Gay” thread?? The OP’s whining is the only clue you’d need. The lack of common sense in choosing Penney’s is just a bonus.

If you liked JCPenney Optical, you'll love its hair salon.

OT: If it's boots you want and it's 1978, grab some Texas Steers at Kmart: "Texas Steers, Texas Steers, the best boot deal in years...a little bit o' loot buys a lot of boot at Kmart!
