Since her private recordings from 1964 were released, we've known about Jackie's seemingly surprising antipathy towards MLK. But reading Beverly Gage's new biography of J. Edgar Hoover, "G-Man: J. Edgar Hoover and the Making of the American Century," I've learned of something that may well have helped to inform her negative views. Gage writes the following:
The FBI continued to gather information on King throughout the spring of 1964., as the Senate took up the civil rights bill and then settled in for another filibuster. Their hotel-romm bugging captured King making a tasteless joke during a televised rerun of John Kennedy's funeral. "Look at her!" King supposedly crowed as Jackie Kennedy bent down over her husband's casket, "sucking him off one last time" - a comment that Hoover promptly shared with Booby Kennedy.

No doubt that Bobby passed that tidbit on to Jackie.

Yea because Hoover is such a reliable source. The man was a raging closeted alcoholic and strident racist. He just couldn’t accept who he was and lived to torment others.

Hoover closeted? Amazingly for those times, he & Tolson lived openly as a couple & were recognized as such by official Washington.

JFK's secretary said that one day he needed to talk to J. Edgar Hoover on the phone, and he said to her "get that old queer on the phone for me".

Hoover was gay and rumored to have Black ancestry.

We have only to wait until 2027 for the release of the FBI’s wiretapped recordings of King.

MLK was a very hypocritical man. Hoover had tons of audio tapes of his bugged hotel rooms showing that he was fucking broads at every stop. Coretta knew all about it. Ralph David Abernathy became persona non grata in the civil rights movement at one point after he confirmed that MLK was a serial womanizer. He rationalized MLK's philandering by saying he had so much love to give he just had to sleep with all those women. All but one of the King children (Yolanda) turned out to be complete frauds and money grubbing grifters. Yolanda died in 2007 and all the other ones are still alive, still grifting.

Liz Smith once talked about going to some party in someone's home in Washington. As she was there she said in walked J. Edgar Hoover in full drag. She didn't say, but reading between the lines I got the feeling this was some sort of a gay soiree, her being a big old lezbo and everything.

A number of civil rights leaders, like Roy Wilkins, were so worried about King’s private indiscretions that they were trying to find a soft landing for him, such as president of a small college, lest he discredit the movement.

R10, that “Hoover in drag” story has been thoroughly debunked over the years. But like Obama being born in Kenya, it has retained a life of its own.

MLK's son Dexter went out to California many years ago thinking he was going to take Hollywood like a storm, and become a major movie star. When his movie career never went anywhere he finally slunk back home to Atlanta. Bernice & MLK III sued Dexter because he was "mismanaging" the finances at the King Center which he was head of. They were most likely mad that they weren't getting a cut of the thievery. Dex sued them back and of course, they settled everything out of court.
His other son, the dummy MLK III is regarded by most all who have ever had to deal with him as a buffoon who has a history of fucking up every endeavor he's ever been involved in. He practically bankrupted the SCLC when he was running it, until the board kicked him out.
His surviving daughter Bernice is a virulently homophobic minister. Her religious mentor was none other than fake "Bishop" Eddie Long (remember that closet case?) whose church she was an elder in and also where her mother attended services.

I read Conversations with Schlesinger which Caroline Kennedy allowed to be published. Which surprised me as Jackie came off as a venomous gossip and bitch. Jackie acted all shocked that MLK had girlfriends. She said Jack and Bobby had shared those little tidbits with her. Given the fact it would have been impossible for MLK to fuck around more than JFK did, and when the book was published Caroline knew full well the extent of her father's shenanigans, that was surprising too. Made me think Caroline didn't actually like her mother very much.
Jackie also bitched endlessly about Eunice and Sargent Shriver while sucking Bobby's dick (figuratively at that time I suppose and literally a bit later on).
When Hoover went to LBJ after the assassination and told him Bobby had put MLK on wiretap and Hoover had proof MLK was a whoremonger, LBJ responded: He wouldn't be the first preacher to chase skirt and he won't be the last.

The Kennedys and King didn’t trust each other.
King didn’t like JFK’s tepid support of Civil Rights while currying favor with Southern Democrats in 1960. The Kennedys didn’t like that King appeared to be supporting Nixon until JFK made a phone call to Coretta Scott King a week before the election while King languished in a Georgia jail.
And The Civil Rights Act was stalled in Congress until LBJ rammed it through Congress after the assassination.
When King died Jackie was forced by Bobby to pay her respects at the funeral, she did not want to go at all. And she had been told about King’s affairs by her husband, which probably was too close to home for her.

King wasn't much of a political strategist, then. JFK would not have been elected president but for what was still left of the Solid South. Making his ultimate commitment to civil rights all the more an act of political courage.

I would argue the JFK (more RFK really) may have personally wanted the Civil Rights Act to pass, but when he died, it was stuck in the rules committee, which was run by a Southern Democrat who voiced his intention to never let it put of committee. It certainly wasn’t going anywhere in the upcoming election year, especially with Goldwater as the GOP frontrunner.
It took LBJ flattering/pleading/coercing/threatening Senators to get it passed.

I beg to differ. He was a so-called Christian minister who preached belief in God and Biblical principles, which includes marital fidelity. Any minister who thinks it's okay to fuck around on your spouse is clearly a hypocrite. How difficult is that to understand?
