Ian Somerhalder has been a television star for years, and he has been featured on massively popular shows like Lost and The Vampire Diaries. Somerhalder has made headlines with his love life, as well, including a relationship to his on-screen sibling.

Let's take a look at Ian Somerhalder and the romance he shared with his television sibling years ago.

Ian Somerhalder Has Had A Great Career

Ian Somerhalder is an actor that has been in the game since the 90s, meaning that he has earned a ton of opportunities and has made the most of them. Somerhalder was not an instant success in the business, but over time, he developed into an incredibly successful actor, especially with his television work.

On the big screen, the actor has been pulling down work since the 90s. He made his major debut with Celebrity, and from there, he continued landing work. He has been in movies like Life as a House, The Rules of Attraction, In Enemy Hands, and Pulse.

As we mentioned already, television has really been his bread and butter. Somerhalder has appeared on shows like CSI, Law & Order, Smallville, and V Wars. Of course, starring on The Vampire Diaries is his biggest hit thus far.

He Starred On 'Lost' With Maggie Grace

In September of 2004, Lost made its debut on television and quickly became one of the most talked about offerings on the small screen. The premise alone was more than enough to get people hooked, and once fans tuned in, they quickly saw that this show was going to be a classic.

The cast boasted a number of talented individuals, including Ian Somerhalder and Maggie Grace, both of whom were featured during the show's first few seasons. The actors had experienced prior to landing on Lost, and the show's success helped take their stock to another level.

Lost was a huge launching point for Somerhalder, but he does have one regret from his time on the show.

"I often think back to why they killed me on 'Lost.' People like to see conflicted people, but through humor. Humor is a medicine for pain. It's a Band-Aid. Boone, unfortunately, and this was my fault as an actor, Boone was a little (expletive). Boone was a spoiled, rich little bastard who couldn't smile to save his life," he said.

"I'm pretty funny, as far as my friends go. They say I'm typically a pretty funny person. Why on earth, living in Hawaii, having so much fun, skinny dipping with our cast three days a week, why didn't Boone (expletive) smile more," he continued.

Nevertheless, the show was a hit, and Somerhalder and Grace found a relationship with one another.

They Dated In Real Life

In a summary of their relationship, Buzzfeed noted, "They first met on set of Lost back in 2004, where their characters played step siblings, and started dating after both their characters got killed off the show."

Actors getting together is pretty common, but the tricky thing here is that these characters were siblings on the show. This definitely adds a unique dynamic to their relationship, but in truth, actors are simply playing different people. Some might not be able to separate reality from fiction, but Somerhalder and Grace were able to during their relationship.

Despite not working out in the long run, the pair remain on good terms. Grace talked about this years back.

"I haven’t dated too many actors. I did when I was really young, for a couple of years, but it’s nothing against actors. Ian Somerhalder and I are still very good friends. You can certainly reconcile schedules with actors but it takes some doing, and I just don’t have that energy," Grace shared.

Prior to this, Somerhalder had expressed a similar sentiment, even stating that he wanted to work with Grace again.

"I would love to do that. I love her dearly. We’re very, very close. She is widely talented, beautiful human being, and we plan on it," he said.
