Though she was in talks to embark on a reboot of 'Lizzie McGuire,' Hilary Duff wasn't fully thrilled with the original series. Nothing necessarily awful happened on the set, but Hilary admitted a few years back that the show wasn't as amazing for her as fans might have assumed.

Hilary Duff Admitted She Didn't Feel Like 'Lizzie'

While the show 'Lizzie McGuire' definitely had an impact on Hilary Duff's childhood, she didn't always relate to Lizzie much. In a Reddit AMA, Hilary admitted that she really was acting on set, and didn't identify with her character much. But why?

Duff explained that she felt "really insecure" at age 13 while working as Lizzie. Yet the role called for a "brave" and confident teen, which felt contradictory.

When a fan asked Duff what she would have told herself as a young teen, the actress said she would tell a younger Hilary to take it easy on herself.

She would also tell her younger self to "calm down," Hilary said, and also "good job." After all, Duff accomplished a lot at a young age, and she's iconic today because of some of her acting roles.

While 'Lizzie McGuire' is her most well-known role, Hilary wasn't a child star who faded from view. In fact, her Reddit AMA was basically publicity for an album she was about to release.

These days, of course, Hilary is spending more time on acting than singing. But knowing that she started as a relatively non-confident teen acting as someone who fully owned her personality and her style gives some perspective on just how normal Hilary is.

Does Hilary Duff Regret 'Lizzie McGuire'?

Based on the answers she gave during her Reddit AMA, it doesn't sound like Hilary Duff regretted 'Lizzie McGuire' at all. Rather, she saw the opportunity as a learning experience, and she was clearly willing to join the reboot when it was a possibility.

She was also "really happy" about other roles that weren't as serious as what she's working on now. For one thing, Hilary explained that working on 'Cheaper by the Dozen' was a fun time and that she loved working with all the other kids in the film.

She's come a long way since then, but Duff knows she was lucky to have the opportunities she did, and that her career morphed into something different yet still rewarding as she got older.
