Before their marriage in 1971, Gretchen embarked on an adventurous career as a Boeing 747 transatlantic flight attendant for TWA. Her journeys took her around the world, and she lived in a one-bedroom flat in Manhattan, sharing the space with six other young women. However, it was Phil’s heartfelt gesture, shipping a gallon of Jamoca Almond Fudge ice cream from Oregon to NYC, that symbolized his love and devotion, eventually winning her heart.
A twice-published novelist, Gretchen’s work graced the pages of publications like Victorian Magazine and Western Flyer, reflecting her passion for aviation.
