Warning: Spoilers ahead for Argylle. Since the first film ever to feature a post-credits scene, The Silencers in 1966, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made them ubiquitous in Hollywood. It begs the question of whether Agylle has a post-credit scene because we all want to know if we need to hang around until the absolute end.

Argylle is a stacked spy-action-comedy from Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman franchise, Kick-Ass). It stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.

She’s accompanied by Aidan (Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (with Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.

“During lockdown, it’s a bleak world, and it’s gotten bleaker. And I was like, maybe it’s time to make some movies and make people forget. Where fun is not a bad word and escapism is good. So I don’t know what it is. Fear? The studios are going through a rough time at the moment,” Vaughn told UPROXX.

“The movie business. And they had a formula that worked for a long time and I think deep down they know that the formula needs to change. But it’s quite difficult to change the formula and it’s a very scary moment jumping off. If the airplane is flying and it seems to be flying well, and even you know that you’re about to run out of fuel, still, you’re going to have to jump off and you’ve got a parachute that might or may not work.” With that said, here’s if you need to hang around until the end for Argylle’s post-credits scenes.

Here’s where the spoilers begin for Argylle so you have been warned. Does Argylle have a post-credits scene? Yep, Argylle has one post-credits scene and it happens shortly after they roll, so you don’t need to hang around right until the end.

In it, we’re told it’s 20 years earlier, before the events of the Argylle, the movie you just watched. A young, brown-haired man walked into a pub called The King’s Man (as a nod to Vaughn’s other work, perhaps?). He orders a “cosmopolitan with a twist”, to which the bartender scoffs that it’s not a nightclub.

“Hold the Cointreau. And the cranberry juice. And the vodka. Just the twist,” the young man replies. It might be a cheeky reference to James Bond’s famous martini, shaken, not stirred, but it’s also code. The barman hands the young man an intricately decorated box that contains a fancy-looking pistol.

When the barman asks him his name, he says it’s is Aubrey Argylle — the (presumed fictional) character from Elly Conway’s books, played by Henry Cavill in the movie. “Argylle: Book One — The Movie — Coming Soon,” reads text on the screen.

Will there be an Argylle sequel? That’s the big question of the day. As Polygon noted: “Because Elly Conway — Bryce Dallas Howard’s character in Argylle — is an author who writes spy fiction about Aubrey Argylle, this scene could just be an in-joke: a trailer for a movie that exists in Argylle’s fictional universe, adapted from the fictional Elly’s fictional book.”

Then again, Elly Conway is a real person and wrote a real book called Argylle (which you can buy here ), which supposedly inspired the movie so this also could hint at a straight adaptation. Vaughn himself would like to make more Argylle films, he said so himself.

“That would be nice, but that’s up to the audience, it’s not up to us,” Vaughn told Polygon. “The plan — touch wood, touch wood — would be Book One, which is written and selling. The book didn’t write itself, you know. […] It’s a really good book.”

He continued: “So [after] Book One, then we would definitely do Argylle 2 the movie, which continues with the characters and the meta craziness,” Vaughn said, which would return audiences to the world of Elly and Aiden. “We’ve got some really fun ideas for that. And if we pull both of those off, then who knows what’s next?”

Vaugh also told GamesRadar that, “Book one is about: how did Argylle become a spy? That will be the next film. And then Argylle 2 is – I don’t want to give it all away, but there’s the young Argylle, and that becomes Henry, because Henry loves the idea of doing a proper Argylle movie as well.”

For the source material, you can’t miss Elly Conway’s Argylle: A Novel. Enter Argylle, a troubled agent with a tarnished past who may just have the skills to take on one of the most powerful men in the world. If only he can save himself first. There’s a rumor going around that it was actually penned by Taylor Swift, but that remains to be seen. Although, there are plenty of Easter Eggs in the movie. We’ll leave that conclusion up to you.
