I found this site thanks to Google, and I doubt I'm alone. Anyone with a penchant for bitchy celeb gossip about people who've been dead for half a century found this place through Google.

I think DL is the only message-disccusion board I've ever encountered where functions-features have gotten worse while programs for such boards have improved. .. For the most part, the search function used to work. Also, older posts weren't automatically closed after a certain period of inactivity and could still be found and referred to. .. Linked photos from most websites would show up in threads. .. Having threads put in subject categories was really great, because you didn't have to scroll through a bunch of shit that you're not interested in and never will be. .. Oh, and it was free.

I actually don't mind paying, but not having the other things mentioned and/or not seeing the site improve like other message boards have over time is what bugs me.

It's a bummer that there's no previews of some links (instagram, twitter and some websites) but I didn't realise there were issues with the search function. What's the story?

Also, some people start threads about some subjects without actually referring to the people involved. And other people search too specifically, eg for what a celebrity has done, instead of just searching for the celebrity by name.

R10 Someone on another thread mentioned that the search function stopped updating a few days ago; and that appears to be true for me as well. I tried doing a very simple search on "Feinstein" to get a thread on her being dead to me, and none of the new ones showed up. Just a bunch of old stuff from the last couple of months.

Exactly r8. This interface has got to be almost 10 years old. Most of the features we used to have like link preview to instragram twitter and being able to post on threads that have been inactive over a year were taken because people here are sensitive and cannot behave. The few things that are left can at least be functioning correctly since the price has gone up

Google searching doesn't bring up the most recent threads, no matter how I do it.

r19 It takes a couple of hours for Google to index DL's most recent threads, so it's pretty much useless for breaking news.

As I recall, DL itself used to use the google search engine until the site changed a few years ago. I remember the google logo used to appear when searching the archive. Apparently they didn't want to license it an longer? The subsequent search engine is rather lacking. Cheap. .. And yet we pay now.
