What do you guys think about the Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie thing? For years this was front-page tabloid fodder and I wouldn't be surprised if it still holds intrigue for some people.

Why do you think Brad left Jenn for Angie? Do you think he ever regretted it? What if this happened in 2020s America? Who do you think came out looking the best?

The official/unofficial reason Brad left is because he wanted children with Angelina. I get that but I also think it's a convenient post-hoc rationalization for Brad having some tawdry affair on his wife. I don't think he saw Angelina for the first time and thought, "oh, there's a woman who'll be a great mom to my kids one day". I think he saw Angelina and thought she's probably into choking and being tied up.

I have a hard time believing he married Jenn and they never had a discussion about kids. I can believe she never wanted kids, but I can also believe she might not have been as resolute in it if she thought it might scare off her A-list movie star boyfriend.

And I feel like even though we're not "allowed" to have an opinion about a woman who doesn't want kids, I do sort of feel Brad and Angie came out looking better with that being their rationale. Jennifer Aniston wasn't seen as the victim as much as she kind of was. I think it was also officially/unofficially stated that she didn't want to mess up her body by getting pregnant. Which I don't know if that's true either, but again: this is why Brad and Angie weren't seen as the bad guys so much. It was like, "yeah Brad cheated but Jennifer Aniston is kind of pitiful for losing her husband over not wanting kids." Not wanting kids in your 20s is one thing; not wanting kids while you're married and in your thirties is looked down upon, even though some people don't care to admit that.

Boring since day one. A poor mans Eddie/Liz/Debbie.

But it was the best thing that ever happened to Aniston's career whether she wants to admit it or not. The only semi interesting thing about her.

Years and years ago it was posted on DL by someone in the industry [it was true, then...] that their mother was friends with Jen's mother and before she married Pitt the DL mother asked Jen's mother if it was a real wedding or [wink] Hollywood coupling and the mother winked back and said "Hollywood, honey..."

To me, the question is, what did Jolie see in Pitt?

He's always been dull. No matter how hot a guy is, if he's boring, some woman is tired of fucking him. And let me remind you bitches when this first broke, I told you that one day, Jolie will dump his ass.

As for Pitt, and choosing between Aniston and Jolie?

Let's see, a TV actor off the shelf of aisle 8 of Cute, Relatable Blondes 'R Us, or, a Mega-beauty, crazy-ass, charismatic, Star Wattage from the Exosphere Jolie?

Of course Pitt traded up.

But now, Pitt turned the tables on Jolie with the help of old-fashioned sexism. She's aging, and, as a man in Hollywood, his stature only becomes greater.

Too bad, and it ain't fair. Jolie has more talent and presence than he ever will but for the life of me, why she thought she had to turn into Lady Countiful with kids, I'll never know.

I think in terms of personality. Pitt and Aniston were well matched and seemed fond of each other. Though Brad was a big movie star, Jen was one of the biggest stars in television history. Jolie was a rising actress, very seductive and beautiful yet chose edgy badass roles. She had that "wild child" image and raw sexuality that straight men went crazy for. Boring nice guy Brad married her out of lust and greed. He wanted to be part of the Hollywood royalty just like he tried with Gwyneth Paltrow.

I always thought Jen's lesson was that a hot guy will never be loyal. Especially a social climber like Brad who is ambitious. Jen is pretty and athletic but not beautiful or glamorous. She's also pretty full and sort of vapid. She isn't that ambitious either because she stuck to corny romcoms or bro comedies only occasionally branching out to indies for awards not interest.

Brad has also been taking on better roles than Angelina and that has a lot to do with it.

Her last notable thing she’s done was Maleficent and it was so stupid.

Think the vaniila life became rather boring and the face to face with angelina looked exciting, how wrong he was.

R6 Angelina was beautiful and crazy, I’ll give you that - but charismatic, star wattage and presence? Nope.

If the tabloids are to be believed (and that's quite an "if") JA was extremely insecure and needy -- always felt that she wasn't quite in his league and that she'd lose him. As is often the case with a clingy partner, that leads to the trajectory playing out just as feared. I guess AJ played the "wild spirit/sexual animal" card and he leapt, and they made wild-animal sounds in their bungalow while shooting that stupid movie. The irony, of course, is that under all that carefully crafted wild-girl mystique (drinking blood, kissing the brother, "heroin has been in my life" 🙄), AJ is the most insecure, jealous, vindictive Hollywood cliché of all. She might be crazy, but more Mia Farrow than hot/fun crazy. So yeah, he probably regrets it. Not that he has to choose between the two of them at this point.

I personally have spent way more time thinking about Angelina Jolie than anyone should (great cheekbones, aren’t they; and that elephant refuge in Cambodia, way to GO, Ange), but I do also note that no one seems to have said “frau” in this thread yet (unless maybe it was offered by someone I’ve blocked), so let’s just do that now.

This is a frauen thread. The bottom line is: we’ll never know anything true about any of those people. Even if they were to post it here! How could we possibly know? And why should we care?

But don’t let that interfere with the obsessing and projecting! We have to do *something* with our lives!

I think Angelina has come out of hiding because she’s tired of Amber and Hilaria and Meghan getting all the headlines.

Wrong. Angelina Jolie was seen as a psycho home-wrecker who “stole” Brad Pitt away from his happy marriage. The public sentiment turned against Jolie really quickly.

Jen’s had multiple loves and strong and loyal friendships which is more than what some people can say (not a dig at AJ). She’s lived well and seems happy.

Brad and Angelina were never going to make it. They lived an unstable life with too many kids. They created their own stressors, and then you have drugs, alcohol and mental illness to the mix.

I was bored by the whole thing, and thought it was lazy to keep bringing it up.

My brother worked on the first house Brad and Jen bought, as well as Jen's as a single. He really liked both of them. They treated him very well, way beyond what was necessary. He told me they were always holding hands and laughing and he was really surprised when they split. Both really into architecture.

OTOH, he also worked for Ashton and Demi. He's not that into pop culture and called to tell me he was working on a new project and had to sign an NDA. A really attractive lady and her son, he said. I finally figured out who it was and we cracked up. They were standoffish and only cared about something that would get them into Architectural Digest.

It never seemed mysterious to me. Jennifer Aniston is simply mild while Angelina Jolie is exciting.

What would have been hilarious is if he married Jolie for sex, then she said, “I want ten children!”

I think Brad is a lot more ambitious than people realize. He saw power couple possibilities with AJ. He was also bedazzled by AJ's beauty and relative edginess (compared to himself). Brad also did want children. Jennifer was collateral damage.

At the same time, AJ realized that she needed to neutralize the whole vial of blood, kissing brother (incest) image that she had created. Hence, Mother Theresa, mother of 6, half of power couple with wholesome Brad.

I read an article that said that AJ was interested in Brad way before they even met.

Angelina is an emotionally broken, hot mess. She was nuts in the sack and had big tits. That’s all over now.

Jen was milquetoast and needy, the face of America's most beloved (and cheesiest) sitcom. Angie was exciting, dark, seductive, and an acclaimed Oscar winning actress. It doesn't take a lot of headscratching to see what he saw in her. I do agree though that Jen came out of it the best, it engendered a lot of public sympathy for her.

As a popular white male, Brad obviously escaped any blame at the time. And in spite of coming off like the bad guy in the situation, Jolie still was begged by Hollywood to do a whole bunch of movies as an actress and was never not in demand. She said no, preferring to do charity work and direct her kind of boring vanity projects (I remember all the back and forth in those leaked Sony emails with Amy Pascal where they were pleading with her to be the face of all these big movies).

I believe Brad and Jenn were a PR arranged meeting and marriage, not a bearding but definitely a business motivated pairing.

By the same token I tend to believe the Jen is not straight rumors. I don't believe her "romances" with John Mayer and Vince Vaughn were real, just PR stunts. The VV one was ridiculous and appeared to be jsut to prove she too could get with co-star. The Justin T. faux marriage was also a business arrangement in my opinion.

It's all smoke and mirrors with most of these celebrity couples.

Why do people even get married when they drop their partner the second someone more beautiful and exiting appears? Brad made a commitment and separated from his wife of 5 years the moment someone better showed up. He's a disloyal jerk who should never get married or be in a committed relationship again.

I don't think Brad and Jen was a PR marriage. I think they had a real thing but the Hollywood lifestyle was detrimental to it. Brad is more competitive and go-getter, Jen was more complicit and just let things come naturally. Brad like most men got bored and was seduced by Angelina's allure. I think he even admits he fucked up here. If it was just a PR thing I don't think Jen would still be milking it for the press. She doesn't show it much, but she was clearly bitter about it. Plus I don't think Angelina would have such hatred for her, if it wasn't a real marriage. And the fact Jen and Brad are still on good terms and appear to be friends. Shows there was genuine love and concern there. Celebrities are still humans like us and marry others in their profession. There's a lot of PR relationships but this whole love triangle seems way too personal and messy to be staged to me.

R31 Angelina was never acclaimed seriously beyond her inexplicable Oscar win for playing a cartoon character version of a Crazy Bitch (I assumed it was a weak year, but there were an entire slew of amazing performances nominated in the category, Chloe Sevigny/Catherine Keener/Toni Collette/Samantha Morton were ALL better than her). Her movies following were big budget low-brow schlock (flops except Lara Croft) and she was a tabloid fixture.

Jolie fraus are just as bad as Aniston fraus. Jolie was famous for being crazy and hot (kissing her brother and Billy Bob).and later being Mrs. Brad Pitt who runs around the world rescuing orphans and stopping wars. I don't recall her ever being taken seriously as an actress. Though she tried, she was way more interesting in the 90s and early 2000s before becoming typecasting as badass dark anti-heroines

Or they both know they can still get good PR out of it. It also probably shows that they were never really IN love. Not Brad. It's ironic that Brad chased two crazy narcissistic bitches like Jolie and Paltrow who dominated him when Aniston while a bit self-absorbed and needy seems to be more pleasant person and supportive of him and his endeavors. Maybe he's a masochistic person and likes being told what to do. And he was a bigger star than Paltrow or Jolie, usually men in the industry want to be the bigger household name out of ego. Brad is an interesting inversion to that.

I don't necessarily think Brad "got away with" his affair simply because he's a man and we don't hold men accountable. Like I said, the whole bit about him wanting children and Jenn seeming steadfastly against it is what made him seem somewhat sympathetic. Sure it was messy to have an affair while on a film with your co-star, but at the end of the day, Brad and Jenn weren't in it for the long haul if he wanted children and she didn't.

Plus, I think people are way more forgiving of that because of their ages. Jenn not being ready for kids at 23 is one thing. You're in your mid-30s worried about your figure that's why you're avoiding children? Eh.

Jen could have just used a surrogate if she was worried about her body. But honestly given her bad relationships with both her parents. It's probably wise she felt she wouldn't be a good mother. I really don't get why people assume all women are maternal and crave children. It's far more culturally enforced than instinctive. And I don't buy the lez rumors either. Not every straight woman wants kids. Jen seems fine with getting dick and going on vacations.

People keep mentioning what Angelina is/was like in bed but how is Brad in bed? Maybe that was an issue in these relationships.

Apart from the "vile of blood/making out with her brother/sex in a limousine" antics, Angelina has always come off more adventurous and just overall more interesting than Jenn. Angelina travels the world -- in part shopping for kids but still -- and works with charities and is/was an ambassador to the UN. What does Jennifer Aniston do besides, like, work out, keep her hair done, and sell Aveeno? She definitely seems like a nice woman but it's funny how Brad and Jennifer both seem like square meat-and-potatoes types yet Brad found what he really wanted, for awhile at least, in Angelina.

I respect Aniston more for not going on the adopt-around-the-world ego trip some Hollywood celebs partake in. Nothing wrong with adoption but I feel parents need to make sure they can take care of their children emotionally not just financially. A lot of celebrities are narcissistic and often consumed with their work. I feel these kids end up neglected and resentful because of their parents being overexposed and famous and they may see them more in the tabloids than at home.

Brad just seems average. He's a very goodlooking guy who never had to work hard for anything. His career was just getting lucky over and over. He was a male hustler who did bit parts for commercials, sitcoms and soaps then low budget movies before his big break in Thelma and Louise. He's not unintelligent, he clearly educates himself and wants to do better. But I think he got a free pass for mediocrity for his looks and marketability. He has that good old Midwestern boy charm. All-American as apple pie and mom.

I have another take, I never felt Jennifer was that into Brad. I said when they married if they don’t have a kid ASAP, it won’t last. I remember one of her farewell Friends interviews and they asked if she was going to start having babies, she was like a deer in headlights and stuttered around the answer. The marriage was over long before it was announced. I honestly don’t believe she ever wanted kids and I agree with the other poster, all her relationships seem contrived.

Brad seems to be the submissive in his relationships.

r47, your post reminded me of Pitt's appearance on "Inside the Actor's Studio" with James Lipton.

I have nothing against Pitt. I believe the reports that he's actually a very nice guy.

But watching that episode, and how the audience reacted with delight and approval to his banal or regular-guy responses, was a real reminder of the power of physical beauty.

Same with JFK, Jr. when he was interviewed on Larry King or Oprah. Thier physical beauty diverts from the reality that neither emit spark or excitement (now, especially not JFK, Jr.)

Onscreen, there is no denying that Pitt is beautiful, and he's put in some good performances.

My favorite Pitt performance was his bit part in "True Romance" where he played the pot-smoking, stoner room mate. He also displayed some comedic skill in that role, too.

But still, while I watch him, he never excites me.

It's like the difference between Golden Age of Hollywood stars Clark Gable and Robert Taylor. Gable is exciting. Taylor is beautiful and with Taylor, that's where it begins and ends.

Pitt reminds me of Taylor.

R35 Salty much. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Wanted, Salt, Maleficent were all major blockbuster hits. Even The Tourist was a box office hit. For Salt, she was the second choice to Tom Cruise who was arguable the biggest action star at the time. Eternals' promotional banners had Angelina placed strategically cause they knew she's the only star among the hodgepodge cast of that film even though she played an underused supporting character. And she's still in the list of the highest paid actresses to this day. Jolie's been a high demand actress for a long time. She's a movie star and movie stars aren't fazed by lack of awards or even criticism from film critics of their acting prowess. Angie's had only one Oscar nom after her first win and yet continues to get top billing roles. Where's Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Hilary Swank and others today. All boring personas with no edge who can't sell a movie no matter their glorious Oscar wins. Film critics can give them all the critical acclaims but they can't give them the "It" factor.

Angelina Jolie isn't that picky.

She just likes twink meat.

Whether it's dessicated old twink jerky like Billy Bob, her own brother, the twink supreme (Hello, Jonny Lee Miller in his prime), the soon to expire twinkdom of Brad Pitt, and even twinks with vaginas (hey, Jenny Shimizu).

What’s interesting is that Brad is a ambitious guy he even admitted in this interview that that he use PR relationship with the actress in Dallas to get his name out there in magazines.

Anecdotal, but I traveled through Missouri in the mid-2000s and had a conversation about the trio with some suburban red state moms (lol), and they weren't very happy with favourite son Brad.

In the scenario where the Pitt/Aniston marriage was a business arrangement, what was in it for him? He was already a big star (listen to the audience swoon and carry on when he guests on Friends). Why would he marry a woman he wasn't interested in? The affair with Jolie proves even to the DL's satisfaction he can't be exclusively gay, so he didn't need a beard chosen for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he was bisexual, so maybe there was some Ray-Donovan-type scandal being covered up, but if so nobody ever got a whiff of it.

In other news, has the DL discussed the fact that Shiloh has stopped being trans? (Scroll to end of article.) It's Jolie's worst nightmare: Mirror mirror on the wall and all that. (Sorry in advance if we have but I missed the thread. A Frau had to tell me!)

I don't think she really was trans. She was just a tomboy and needed some time to figure things out. My niece was also a tomboy with short hair and boy clothes and that changed around the same time. At her high school graduation she had long hair, wore a dress and looked beautiful. Kids just need some time to find themselves at this age

Brad was bigger than Jen but Jen was plenty big by herself even if not a movie star like him. I can see Brad being into her. He was with Juliette and Gwyneth before, so he wasn't only into bombshells. Aniston has that sporty California girl look with a rockin' body and cute face who isn't imposing or threatening that straight men lust over. But he eventually left her once he met Angelina who was not only was sexy and alluring but wanted kids.
