That's hard! Probably Blue Ruin, just for its incredible twists and unusual protagonist. But Green Room is also brilliant. Saulnier's got talent.

Both are slogs showing Jeremy Saulnier's trademark of taking a great premise and screwing it up with dragging pacing and underacting (basically he's a Shymalan wannabe). It's honestly a coin-flip between these two.

I thought they were pretty comparable. I agree with Kersey that the pacing was a little slow, Blue Ruin more so, which makes them both a little less fun, and more work, to watch. That said, the pacing and "underacting" add to the natural feel these movies have, which is kind of unique and definitely part of the appeal of these two movies. While neither is overly cerebral, one is a horrror thriller and the other is a revenge thriller; the stripped down natural feel is probably either a refreshing change of pace or boring (depending on your personal taste). I lean towards the former, but keeping in mind thaat both are thrillers also, I found Green Room more suspenseful.

I didn't initially realise these had the same director, but I literally found myself comparing the 2 as I watched Blue Ruin. Really enjoyed both, and actually appreciate the pacing of both. I don't see it as a negative at all. That being said, I think Green Room takes the win, but think both were great
