Bathhouses OPEN In Montreal - & Have Their First Death

Bathhouses and other saunas were recently given the green light to reopen in Quebec amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

A man was found dead in a bathhouse in Montreal’s Gay Village early Tuesday morning.

Montreal police (SPVM) spokesperson Const. Véronique Comtois said a 911 call was received at around 1:10 a.m. concerning a man who had reportedly fallen unconscious in the establishment.

Global News later confirmed the incident to have taken place at Sauna G.I. Joe, located on Ste-Catherine Street East and Montcalm Street.

The man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after officers arrived.

Comtois said police are treating the death as “suspicious” and that “an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of this death.”

Probably an OD, yeah? I hope he, at least, had a fantastic fuck before the curtain closed.

It's kind of insane that in many places you can't have dine in service at restaurants and bars are closed and all schools are closed. We had a complete meltdown over the fire Island parties and the Missouri pool parties. We freak out whenever someone refuses to wear a mask inside a grocery store yet bathhouses are open?

The death isn't due to covid, but it's utterly irresponsible to go to a bathhouse right now

Just a context for non-Canadians, Quebec currently has a far-right populist government in power. Quebec was the hardest hit province in Canada and was the last to lock down and the first to re-open.

R4 Just because the government gives a green light doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Most of Canada's provincial governments are run by conservative governments whose priorities are economic recovery and getting people back to work,not health safety. For example, in Ontario Doug Ford is being advised by a 'panel of experts' that he refuses to name...the reason he refuses to name allegedly there is not a single medical profession on the panel. Rather he's being advised by the CEO of Canadian Tire and TSJ (which owns Winners and Marshalls).

That being said, one of the reasons why the Bathhouses are re-opened is likely to cater to people with sexual addiction problems. It's the same reason why the liquor stores remained opened throughout the pandemic.

R5 CAQ is not a far right political party. it is pretty centrist with some ideologies that are centre right and some that are centre left.

R12 They are an anti-non-white immigration, anti-Muslim, and François Legault himself has stated they are a socially conservative party. They want Quebec excluded from Canada's multicultural laws, and while Legault attended Montreal Pride for the first time in 2019, it was met with huge resistance within his caucus and party members many of whom oppose gay marriage. They are not a left leaning party. Centrist on the economy (possibility), but the are center-right if not far right on social issues particularity on immigration.
