Screw a nomination, I hope he wins.

by Anonymousreply 1November 29, 2022 8:15 PM

Who the fuck is bankrolling his PR team, this is getting ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 2November 29, 2022 8:17 PM

R2 He deserves all the hype after the performance he gave in Elvis.

by Anonymousreply 3November 29, 2022 8:52 PM

Does he, OP? How UNUSUAL for an actor!

by Anonymousreply 4November 30, 2022 4:08 PM

R2, "Ridiculous" that the star of the second-highest grossing movie of the summer should be invited to host SNL? Brendan Gleeson did it, and needed Colin Farrell to get through the monologue. Elon Freaking Musk did it. KIM KARDASHIAN hosted. But NOW you find fault?

So don't watch.

He's got the Hillary Swank effect. Hillary went from 90210 to Oscar winner virtually overnight. I only seen this guy from Carrie Diaries like a few years ago. His stardom has risen basically overnight from his role as Elvis. The same with Ariana Debose.

He didn’t see his family for three years, but he has the time to host Saturday Night Live?

by Anonymousreply 11December 18, 2022 2:14 AM

He absolutely blew me away in a film I expected nothing but trash from. I will say I did not expect it

by Anonymousreply 12December 18, 2022 2:17 AM

The poor boy is caught in a trap.

by Anonymousreply 13December 18, 2022 2:19 AM

I event seen rape victim Fraser yet but he was miles above Farrell who's character is utterly charming but does no stretch of acting.

by Anonymousreply 14December 18, 2022 2:21 AM

The WHOLE show is now OVERSHADOWED by the mysterious firing of Cicely Strong!

by Anonymousreply 16December 18, 2022 3:20 AM

R11, Filming ended for "Elvis" in March, 2021.

by Anonymousreply 18December 18, 2022 4:16 AM

He's been absolutely brilliant tonight. And out of his "sweet" character.

by Anonymousreply 19December 18, 2022 5:49 AM

And they brought "The Graduate" into this century with one word---PLIRTS.

by Anonymousreply 20December 18, 2022 8:34 AM

I was shocked how good he was. He has a future.

by Anonymousreply 21December 18, 2022 3:05 PM

Why "shocked," r21? He's going to be nominated for an Oscar!!

Austin is a superb mimic beyond Elvis.

Tonight he did a terrific "Linda Richman" (I suspect Austin used to do this character at home, so wanted to bring her into his Elvis world!); a perfect Von Trapp-like kid; Blue Steel; but most importantly:

He was a spot-on "IaWL" Jimmy Stewart--- voice, mannerisms, intensity. Perfection.

And how many hosts actually have taken people's real criticisms (his voice, his model looks, his carefully-coiffed hair, e.g.) and made self-effacing jokes about them?

All in all, Austin was great; the show was pretty good. I just thought all the Cecily stuff stole too much of Austin's deserved thunder.

Addendum: I'd like to have seen him replace Kate's "Abducted by Aliens" off-color character! "I had a different experience. Yeah, first they grabbed my meat and two veg, ...."

by Anonymousreply 22December 18, 2022 3:45 PM

SNL, a show no one watches, is not what you do to get an Oscar nom.

by Anonymousreply 23December 18, 2022 3:59 PM

Did you write that about Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, r23? HMMMM?

Oh, God. An Austin Butler troll?!!! DL is really scouring the outskirts of showbusiness these days.

by Anonymousreply 25December 19, 2022 3:00 AM

I have no idea who this person is.

But he has no comedic timing, and he's bland as hell.

I agree that his publicists seem to be pushing him hard, for some strange reason.

He's dating Cindy Crawford's daughter as noted in the article at R28.

by Anonymousreply 29December 19, 2022 6:08 AM

He's a bit old to be the "next big thing," isn't he?

Timmy IS the next big thing.

And he's younger than this Austin Butler person.

by Anonymousreply 30December 19, 2022 6:10 AM

Timmy IS the big thing (in a tiny, anorexic package).

by Anonymousreply 31December 19, 2022 6:15 AM

Has he dated the Kaia Gerber?

by Anonymousreply 32December 19, 2022 6:39 AM

R27, You're on a computer. Don't act like ignorance is a Merit badge.

by Anonymousreply 33December 19, 2022 7:37 AM

My scouting troop were luddites, we didn’t have badges for technology related things.

by Anonymousreply 34December 19, 2022 7:41 AM

I know I saw Elvis when it was at the cinema but I can't remember a thing about it.

by Anonymousreply 35December 19, 2022 7:47 AM

Five years from now: "Austin who?" or "WHET Austin Butler? He was supposed to be the 'next big thing.'"

by Anonymousreply 36December 19, 2022 7:56 AM

R35 surely you can remember “he’s caught in a trap” they hammered that point through about a million times.

He really seems to be going all out for the Oscar. I think his people have told him it might be now or never. He looks okay and all but he’s being a bit bizarre now in not dropping the character- it’s in his talk, the way he holds his face… when faye dunaway did this she was panned for mommie dearest.

by Anonymousreply 37December 19, 2022 7:57 AM

He’s just this year’s Hunter Parrish.

by Anonymousreply 38December 19, 2022 8:03 AM

R27, Colin, Brendan, and Austin are guests on television talk-shows because that's what Oscar possibles do.

Austin was recently on "Jimmy Fallon," Brendan was just on "Jimmy Kimmel," and Colin on "Stephen Colbert" and "Seth Meyers."

Austin was on "SNL" on 12/17/22, and Colin was on "SNL" on 10/08/22 (with host Brendan Gleeson).

Moreover, Brendan's movies are being shown on television lately: "The Mummy" set and "Journey to the Center of the Earth," e.g.

So your emphasis on Austin Butler is peculiar.

by Anonymousreply 39December 19, 2022 8:15 AM

well, anyone promoting anything will be on a talk show.

by Anonymousreply 40December 19, 2022 8:19 AM

R35, 2 1/2 hours of your life, poof, gone? Maybe aliens abducted you.

Now, it's one thing to imply that Austin Butler's Elvis and Tom Hanks' Col. Tom Parker were, to you eminently forgettable. But to suggest that you do not recall the performances of Alton Mason as Little Richard singing (lip-synching to Les Greene) "Tutti-Frutti" or the late Shonka Dukureh as Big Mama Thornton singing "Hound Dog"---well, that notion beggars belief.

by Anonymousreply 41December 19, 2022 8:29 AM
